Dreyana Grooms is a docu-realistic feature drama based on a young woman’s true story. Set on the “Low End,” a near-South Side Chicago area which earned its nickname during the 1960s “low” -income and public housing boom, the film looks at how a violent event turned Dreyana’s teen life—and the lives of those close to her—upside down.

Investment Rationale: Dreyana Grooms takes on the idea of the system versus the individual. In Chicago, as in a lot of places, black and brown people become pawns in the criminal justice system. Prosecutors put impossible burdens on defendants to be virtuous. This film allows us to place the burden of virtuousness back on prosecutors and the justice system.
